Film noir crime drama Red Light starring George Raft is on Movies! this month. Among his eleven films in the genre, it is a lesser known but highly watchable 1949 release. Skilled director Roy Del Ruth brings out a subtly nuanced performance from George whose character conceals a deeply felt loss with a stoic demeanor and staunch determination to mete out his own justice. Supporting actors Gene Lockhart, Henry Morgan and Raymond Burr bring additional depth to the whole affair. Del Ruth’s deft touch enhances the film noir elements as well as brings out some comedic moments. All in all, a good movie for film noir and George Raft fans alike.
