Midnight Club was released on July 29, 1933, and starred George Raft, Clive Brook and Helen Vinson. It was satisfying entertainment with both comedic and dramatic elements. The story is about a detective who infiltrates a ring of jewel thieves, and the able cast delivers well enough though the script is a bit lacking.
George liked to play characters that audiences would admire and the hero masquerading as a charming villain was a role well suited to him. The chemistry between the leads is low but in keeping with the pre-code days in which this movie was filmed. Helen preferring the manly George over the upper-class Clive Brook character is understandable and consistent with the times.
@harlowgold made a video of clips from Midnight Club that shows some of the stylish clothing George and Helen wore. The movie is hard to find so the video will have to do.
