George Raft in Color

Almost all of George’s films were black and white and color photos of him are very rare. So while watching Black Widow (1954), I took a few screenshots, posted them to Instagram, then decided one belonged here, too. The quality isn’t great but seeing him in color is still a treat.

In this film George played a police detective, a role that suited his talents as well as his preference for playing a good guy. The cast was top-notch including Ginger Rogers, Gene Tierney, and Van Heflin. The director was Nunnally Johnson and the production quality was excellent. George and Ginger were premiere dancers of the era but unfortunately there was no place for that in Black Widow. Despite that, it’s a good film. There is a link to it at the Movie Playlist on the homepage of his site or you might find it at the Movies! channel.
