George Raft in Dancers in the Dark

Dancers in the Dark was released on March 11, 1932. The pre-code drama starred Miriam Hopkins as a taxi dancer and Jack Oakie as a band leader, but this lobby card featured George Raft who played a gangster and patron of the dance hall.

Though very early in his career and with little thespian background, George dominated his scenes. Featuring him on a lobby card instead of Oakie, the male lead, indicates Paramount knew he would attract an audience.

This was the second of eight films, including Scarface with Paul Muni and Night After Night with Mae West, in which George appeared that year. Dancers in the Dark is available along with dozens of his films through the movies link at GeorgeRaft.com.
